Where Our Help Comes From

Today’s Scripture
“Love the Lord with all your heart, soul and strength” (Deut 6:5).

In our life we will have peaks and valleys, times of prosperity and times of trouble. When we have enough to eat and our needs met, that is the time we are to praise the Lord, but that is the time we must also be careful. For it is when we have everything we need – a roof over our head, food to eat, cars in the drive and clothes to wear – that we’re most likely to forget our need for God. It’s easy for idols to creep in during times of prosperity. The solution is to remember what God has done, keeping the commands of the Lord continually before us.

So often, we cry out to God for help in our time of need, yet fail to cry out to God during times of blessing. We need God during all times! This lesson reminds us that it is the Lord who brings us into prosperity, gives us the power to be successful, and Who crosses over into the space ahead of us. Know you have victory in life because of God’s grace – not because of your own abilities. Beware in your plenty that you do not forget the Lord your God (Deuteronomy 8:11).
