Because Balaam could not earn his reward money by pronouncing a curse, he turned to another means. Revelation 2:14 tells us he showed Balak how to trip them up: teach them to sin by eating food offered to idols and participating in their idol worship. This sin provoked the anger of God and cost 24,000 Israelites their lives. Had it not been for the great intercessor, Phinehas, none would have been spared (Num 25:11).

Balaam preached the doctrine of compromise and it tripped Israel up time and time again. The cry of the world – even today – is to be tolerant, accepting of the sin around us. Do you allow the world to entice you to compromise?
