Today’s Scripture
“I brought you to curse, instead you have blessed” (Numbers 23:11).

 

 
Balaam was asked by King Balak to put a curse on Israel. Even though he asked God if he should go, his heart was desiring of the reward promised from Balak. God allowed him to go to chase after the desires of his heart, but He did not want him to and it angered Him.

 
God often times allows us opportunities to follow after the longings of our heart, sometimes to bless, and sometimes to test our motives. At face value, Balaam appeared to fear God, but what motivated him was love of money. We can fear God and have a relationship with Him, but something will always keep getting in the way of that relationship if we don’t acquire power over our passions.
