A Second Law

Today’s Scripture
“May the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful” (Ps 90:17).

Deuteronomy is the Book of Instruction, otherwise known as the Book of the Law, given to the second generation of Israelites living in the wilderness. It contains the greatest commandment to love the Lord with all your heart, soul and strength and the second greatest commandment to love your neighbor as yourself. It also contains 613 laws, including the 10 commandments which Israel was to follow so that they may keep the covenant God made with them.

A copy of the law was kept outside of the Ark and every seven years the priests were to read it verbally to the people at the Feast of Tabernacles (Deut 31:10-11). Men, women and children alike would hear the law and be called to obey. How fortunate we are to have our very own copy! Unlike the people of those times who had to wait seven years to hear it, do you treasure your Bible, both Old and New Testaments as your very own?
