The Levites were responsible to dismantle, transport and setup the Tabernacle and all its furnishings as the Israelites moved from place to place in the wilderness on their way to the Promised Land. The responsibility was divided among three Levite clans: the Kohathites, Gershonites and Merarites. They were warned not to touch or even look at the Most Holy Objects, or they would die.
The Levites were warned not to touch or even look at the Holy objects. This was to spare their life. What in your life do you need to keep at a distance? Like a three-fold square, ask the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to encamp around you, surrounding you with protection, guidance and Holy warnings.
I love the reminder that God is a God of order.
Also, I’m reminded of how seriously God takes our sin. Their sin caused them to wander for 40 years. Makes me wonder what hardships I’ve gone through simply because I didn’t obey?
And, as an almost 64-year-old, I wonder what those Levites over 50yo did. I think I remember reading (or you saying) that they continued to help in some way. Anyway, I hope they had something to do!
I think everyone then (in the story) was able to make a valuable contribution, just as I believe that everyone of all ages can make a valuable contribution today!
