The Suffering Servant

Jan 31, 2018 / Bible Study / 1 COMMENTS

Today’s Scripture
“My servant Job will pray (intercede) for you and I will accept his prayer (intercession) on your behalf” (Job 42:8).

In chapter 1, God calls Job his “servant.” By enduring suffering and not cursing God, Job served a powerful purpose – to silence the devil! The accusation the devil had made that Job would only love God if God blessed him was untrue! Job served in this way as a “suffering servant” – a pre-type of Christ. Jesus also served as a suffering servant (Isaiah 53) during His time on earth. Suffering in the will of God is a ministry of service to Him.

Job becomes an intercessor, not only praying for, but also forgiving his friends. Notice it was when he was praying for them that God blessed him, restoring to him double blessings than he had before! Our response and ability to forgive, maintaining faith throughout our circumstances, is tied to our receipt of God’s blessing. God is in control. Be patient as you endure, trusting blessings await.
