A Day To Do Over

Today’s Scripture
“Against you, and you alone, O Lord, have I sinned” (Psalm 51:4).

Today we read about David’s sin with Bathsheba and the murder of Urriah. Some time after when their son was a “child,” God calls Nathan to go to David and confront him of these sins. David immediately confesses and with a sincere heart asks for God’s forgiveness and for the Holy Spirit not to be taken from him.

Confession was a great relief to David! When we read Psalms 32 and 51 together, we gain insight into how he must have felt during the many months (maybe years) before his confession (confrontation) and how thorough David’s repentance really was. God is both merciful and just and through this story we see evidence of both. Nathan told David God had forgiven him. Oh, if we, too could be so quick to forgive!

This lesson from God to David is a vivid reminder of how quickly any of us can fall, the consequences of that failure, and the grace our Father still showers on us when we repent. Psalm 51 is special, an example of repentance for all of us.
