The Last Adam

Jan 01, 2013 / Bible Study / 4 COMMENTS

Today’s Scripture
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters” (Genesis 1.1).

Welcome (back) to the online Bible study! I am thrilled to be studying with you this year and pray for blessing upon you as you seek God through Scripture in order to do His will.

Notes
In the chapters of Genesis we find principles that will help us understand God, ourselves and our relationship with Him. As we study Scripture in this study, we will look to see Jesus in both the Old and New Testaments. Today, we see that Jesus Christ is the Last Adam. The first man, Adam, became a living being; the last Adam, Jesus, is a life-giving spirit (1 Co 15:45).

God desires to bless; however, our choices can prevent Him from doing so. What effect are you allowing sin to have on your life, and are you heeding God’s call to ‘subdue sin and be its master’ (Genesis 4:7)?

Shannon, as you know, I’m still catching up from my months of caregiving, but have decided to try to catch up here, too, rather than be so behind from the group.

It’s so funny, I had picked out a new notebook, one that has plenty of pages, and I thought that if I could limit my notes to one or one and a half pages, I could use one notebook this year instead of being scattered in so many like I did last year. My thinking was that since we’d already been through it one time, I shouldn’t have so much to write down. WRONG!

My first day in the new year and I’ve already used 2 1/2 pages, and I didn’t even write out all I wanted to write! Oh well…

A couple of things I noticed this time. Not particularly revealing, but just interesting tidbits. 1)God told ADAM about the Tree, but we don’t see Him telling Eve. Eve must have heard it from Adam! 2)I’ve noticed and commented on this before, but it’s still interesting to me: The first time God says something is NOT good is after He made Adam alone. 3)Adam’s name wasn’t mentioned until he named Eve. Interesting details. 🙂

Thank you for planning another year of study with us. I pray we’ll not only choose to read His word, but choose to absorb and apply its truths to our lives!

    Happy New Year!

Hello dear friend, I chuckle as I read your post today. I had the same thoughts… having just been through the Bible, what more is there? And God surprised me with more insight into Genesis 1-3, so I made new videos to start the year. Didn’t you love the part about Adam and Christ’s likeness and also Eve’s likeness to the church? I, too, have realized if I pray for insight before I read, I get more out of it. Love to you!

WOW!!!! Lots of good stuff for the first lesson of the new year! I’m still trying to finish Revelation as I got distracted by company this past week…..hope to finish over the next day or two and keep up with the new class.

I liked the tidbits in Vonda’s post. Like Vonda, I am amazed at the new insights. For this year of study, I have decided to write my own insights in the notebook before listening to the video or looking at last year’s notes. Can’t wait to see what new revelations God brings throughout the year!!!!

Thanks, Shannon, for hanging in there with us for this new year of study!
