What Helps Us Remember

Mar 03, 2015 / Bible Study / 1 COMMENTS

Today’s Scripture
“Then the Lord said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the people: Throughout the generations to come you must make tassels for the hems of your clothing and attach them with a blue cord. When you see the tassels, you will remember and obey the commands of the Lord” (Numbers 11:11).

When the Israelites were perched at the periphery of the land, ten of the twelve scouts returned with a negative report. This scared the people and they lost their confidence in God. Their lack of faith cost them the blessing of living in the promised land.

Our battle has already been won through Jesus on the cross, but in order to enjoy the victory (i.e. live in the blessings of our promised land), we must obey the Lord. The Holy Spirit helps us do this. Jesus gives us the victory; the Spirit helps us to stay there.

What a powerful reminder of God’s view of our grumbling against what He does for us! They worshiped a golden calf earlier and those who sin died immediately. BUT…when they questioned God’s ability to do what He said He would do–give them the promised land–He required a slow death of 40 years until all those complainers were dead. Wow.

Then, when they said they would go in and take the land after they had grumbled, Moses warned them not to. They did anyway and God allowed them to be trampled by their enemies. A good reminder that it’s God’s way or no way. God is in control.

    Sobering reminders today.
