Today’s Scripture
“Look, your King is coming to you. He is humble, riding on a donkey – riding on a donkey’s colt” (Matthew 21:5).

 

 
The Triumphal Entry ushers in the last phase of Jesus’ public ministry. It is the Holy City’s last opportunity during Jesus first coming to accept Jesus as Messiah. Foretold long before, the act of Jesus riding on a donkey into Jerusalem was prophetic (Zech 9:9).

 
After Jesus rides into Jerusalem proclaiming peace, he weeps over Jerusalem because he knows her fate. In AD 70, the Temple was sacked, Jerusalem destroyed and the sacrifices were stopped for the remainder of this age.
