The Trappings of Lifestyle

Jun 21, 2017 / Bible Study / 0 COMMENTS

Today’s Scripture
“The Lord never does anything until he reveals his plans to his servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7).

Israel has been enjoying prosperity. The decree of Amos comes as quite a surprise. They have been going to Temple, making offerings, and anxiously awaiting the coming Day of the Lord, yet, God says his patience is up and Israel is ripe for punishment because they have forgotten how to do right (Amos 3:7).

Amos paints a picture of the inner lives of the Israelites during this prosperous time of their history. They live in large houses, eat choice meat, drink wine by the bowlful and live in utter luxury, yet neglect the helpless, the poor and the oppressed. They spend all they have on themselves, and seem to be utterly trapped by their lifestyle. Are you careful to live your life very differently from this description, using your wealth and resources to bless others? Can it be said you live your life ‘blessed to be a blessing’?
