Today’s Scripture
“He (High Priest) will put on holy linen garments and purify the Most Holy Place, the Tabernacle, the altar, the priests and the entire congregation” (Leviticus 16:32-33).

 

 
Significant preparation had to be made by the High Priest before he could perform the Day of Atonement sacrifices. This annual festival was the way in which God atoned for the sins of the entire congregation for the prior year – both intentional sins and unintentional sins. The comprehensiveness is staggering!

 
While the High Priest had duties on the Day of Atonement, there were also requirements of the people. They were to keep the Sabbath and fast in a spirit of repentance.
