Today’s Scripture
“Stop turning my Father’s house into a marketplace” (John 2:16)!

Herod’s Temple

During Passover (probably April 7, 30 AD), Jesus went to Jerusalem for the celebration and responded emotionally to the merchants selling cattle, sheep and doves for sacrifices. He drove out the sheep, scattered the money changers’ coins over the floor and turned over their tables. His father’s house had been turned into a marketplace!

As He spoke “My Father’s House,” Jesus was claiming to be the Messiah in a most public place – the Temple. The Jewish leaders demanded a sign of confirmation, which Jesus did not give immediately. His resurrection years later served as confirmation for the unbelievers.
