Encouragement Not To Quit

Aug 06, 2017 / Bible Study / 0 COMMENTS

Today’s Scripture
“He arrested Jeremiah the prophet and had him whipped and put in stocks” (Jeremiah 20:2).

The story of the potter and the clay, told by Jeremiah the prophet, is an action sermon depicting a spiritual reality using a physical example. The telling of this truth, that Judah and Jerusalem will be shattered, was a coming reality; however, bad news was not what the people wanted to hear. As a result of obeying God, Jeremiah was beaten and chained in a very public and humiliating place, and he remained an official prisoner until Nebuchadnezzar set him free.

Do you ever feel that serving God results in trouble? As Jeremiah cried out his frustration to God, he revealed very real and raw emotions. In life a duality exists. With the good comes the bad. But God promises to be with us and to allow us to be part of the never-ending story of redemption. When Jeremiah suffered, he took his concerns to God. In our humanness, it’s natural to want to quit; yet, through the Spirit’s wholeness, it’s natural to have the strength to keep going.
