Appreciate Humble Beginnings

Today’s Scripture
“There were 212 gatekeepers in those days… for they were responsible for the rooms and treasuries at the house of God. They would spend the night around the house of God, since it was their duty to guard it and to open the gates every morning” (Nehemiah 12:22, 26-27).

After the return from exile, the people rebuilt their homes, the Temple and the city. As they resumed Temple worship, it became necessary to reinstitute the roles the Levites and priests played in the daily service of the Temple. Today we focus on the role of gatekeepers and musicians as key functions in daily life.

Praise to God was so important in the life of Israel that Nehemiah organized two large choirs (coming up in the reading) and incorporated a multitude of musicians to be on duty at the Temple at all hours. Got praise? Do you remember to incorporate praise and thanksgiving as a natural and routine part of your daily worship?
