A Three-Year Siege

Jun 28, 2015 / Bible Study / 1 COMMENTS

Today’s Scripture
“Then the king of Assyria invaded the entire land, and for three years he besieged the city of Samaria.” (2 Kings 17:5).

Siege! A siege that lasts a full three years! Can you imagine?! This siege was God’s judgment and it ended in exile for the men, women and children! The northern kingdom of Israel was undone and its people scattered.

In the prophet Hosea’s words, we see warning and judgment; yet, we also see a future promise of restoration. In 722 BC, the Assyrians besieged the capital Samaria; however, Hosea promised a future time where the people of Judah and Israel will unite, choose one leader for themselves and will return from exile (Hosea 1:11). Certainly, this prophecy began to be fulfilled in 1948 with the establishment of the nation of Israel; and likewise, we await its full fulfillment during the Millennium, when Christ will be their king.

I love seeing the beautiful picture of Jesus, contrasted with the debauchery of the day, just as He is for us today, even in the midst of our satan-driven culture. Oh, what a Savior!
