A Sifting of Grain

Jun 22, 2017 / Bible Study / 0 COMMENTS

Today’s Scripture
“I’m not a professional prophet, nor was I trained to be one. I’m just a shepherd, but the Lord told me to ‘Go and prophesy to Israel'” (Amos 7:14-15).

The five visions of Amos tell him what God will do to the nation of Israel for their sins. God compares the coming judgment to the sifting of grain! Ouch! Yet in his judgment, there is a promise of restoration.

The prophet (shepherd) Amos tells us that God will destroy the Northern Kingdom of Israel, but not the people of Jacob. He also confirms God is calling other nations unto Himself – the Gentiles! – (Amos 9:12) and after that Age is complete, He will establish a Jewish kingdom reuniting the twelve tribes, restoring the land and blessing the people.
