A Merciful Savior

Today’s Scripture
“…but he will eat regularly at my table” (2 Samuel 9:7).

Ancestry of Zadok and Abimelech

Mephibosheth was Jonathan’s living son, who was lame in both feet because his nurse dropped him while fleeing during a battle when he was very young. David promised to care for Mephibosheth for the remainder of his life and to treat him as a son.

Today, we see David as a merciful savior whose actions grew out of a loving covenant he had made with Jonathan long before. Through an act of grace, David called him by name and made him a son, providing for him from then on. This kind of kindness in Hebrew is referred to as “hesed” and is otherwise known as “loyal love.” This is the kind of love Jesus has for us. Do you remember your promises, living out Christ’s “loyal love” through you?

Oh, that I would be more like David and wait on Him! Sometimes I feel that I have to do something, but then discover that, even if it wasn’t a bad thing, in doing it, I was out of His perfect will.
