A Letter to Exiles

Aug 12, 2017 / Bible Study / 0 COMMENTS

Today’s Scripture
“This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the captives he has exiled to Babylon from Jerusalem: “Build homes, and plan to stay. Plant gardens and eat the food they produce. Marry and have children” (Jeremiah 29:4-6).

After 597 BC when Jehoiachin and the queen mother were deported, Jeremiah writes a letter to the exiles in Bablyon. He does so in order to refute false teaching and false assumption that the captives would be returning home very soon. Yet, because the exile was judgement, God expected the people to participate in it fully and resettle in a new land without rebellion even towards this… just as he would expect them to return home willingly when the time came 70 years later.

When God pronounces judgement in your life, do you willingly go along with the lesson or do you restrain in struggle through the difficulty?
